,a sink hole formed in my rose garden pulling down a whole rose bush.Later I was to find out that council pipes were indeed inside the fence line instead of on the outer. No drainlayer was interested in coming to check it out,due to the area issues or EQC not paying them.Nobody could tell me up to this point whether the pipes were stuffed outside or in my property, now I know why.
Out of the blue, workmen arrive, dug a massive trench along the whole garden, eww there was our sewage from all those months.Trench was left there for 3 weeks till a guy from Arrow came out to do the DRA report approx 3-4 weeks ago.He put danger tape around a couple of things and also the trench.I had only been left with a foot or so to get out of my driveway, cars were parked on the road and on the footpath as part of the drive was broken away. The Arrow man got on the councils backs, and they have temporarily filled it in,which now is slowly sinking.I noticed all the water that was always in the gutter and realised when I seen soapy water that it was from my shower.Somehow some other guys arrived and dug another massive hole in other corner of garden.Well they grabbed some trellis from the back and lay it over the hole, would say that was due to the way the other trench was left exposed.Other guys had been out to disinfectant our property prior to this. Then some others blew through the pipes stinking the house out.Another guy rang to say your pipes are completely destroyed and bill so far was to the council, but he was going to draw me up a quote to give to EQC. When he realised I was Orange zone he said he couldnt do anything for me.Some other guys cut a square in my patio deck to get to the drain, which is now full to the top with silt.Next night got home form work and the seat that was screwed in to the house on the deck had been dismantled. And days prior to this my block wall had been pulled down completely due to being unsafe.Besides the block wall all the other times different people had been at my house I was never made aware of what was going on,when they would be at my house, all the while I was at work.
I only bought the house 1 year prior to the Sept quake and never liked the house, and was unsure of the area. But over time this area has grown on me immensely and it has become my passion. I love the Track, which I nicknamed 'Beri-Ford' Track, and the Port Hills,in particular the hill I call the 'Nipple Hill'. I didnt realise how wonderful they were till last week.Driving home from work it dawned on me that I cant wait to get home to be by the river and the Nipple Hill, just to see them. This is why I have been documenting the river as it slowly dies and soon the track will be in the river.
I want to stay, even though I still dont like the house, at the moment it is on the verge of rebuild/replace,but AMI are waiting on the zone decision before committing. Every day I scan my property and document and the lateral movement is slowly continuous which also makes me think that the decision will not be the one I wish for.
I have a heap of liquefaction under the house which is 'contamined'.I take pics all the time and stick the camera through the broken foundation vents to monitor changes.Taking the pics I dont know what Im taking of till I put them on the computer as I stick my hand through the blown vents. Here I was eating tea while looking at the pics I just took and got a hell of a fright. A dead cat was under there with its head hanging in like a sink hole.Still dont know if it was the contamination or what, why it was there dead. This is a nightmare in itself,it would be too hard to pull the dead cat out where it is positioned so it is still there, and now it is indescribable what it looks like now. There is also something else black under there but the cam is not good enough to work out what it is. I know when there is something different due to the regularity I take pics. One thing I advise females,DO NOT take pics of under your house, you will never forget it!
Each day is a challenge and no longer go shopping for anything house related, all we can really shop for is food.No need for pictures, too many cracks. No use buying furniture as dont know whether it will go with where we may have to move to,no use doing the gardens which were once award winning gardens(I keep the property sale sign to show people how it used to look)My front lawn looks like a work site. Our reception is so bad we are lucky to see much of any channels, and cannot get anyone out to sort it as we dont know how much longer we can live here or what the govt will do with us.I have some clothes out that arent packed so wear only a handful of different things each week, all my shoes have silt and remnants on them,I have not dressed up as I used to as socialising has gone off my important list. I go to work, then want to be home, check my letterbox for any letters from CERA etc(I used to check for mail once a week as used to be just bills),scan over the house for any changes, and being at home I am happiest, like the Captain of a sinking ship. My mum has been kind enough to cook meals for us as now not much cooking is done due to the pipes and the smells. My son only recently was diagnosed with Kerataconus, and I pray that the contamination and germs have not exelerated this condition. He can no longer attempt to put a contact lens in the better eye as the place is just not hygenic.
Although this is life at the moment, two weeks ago I realised that being Orange was like a safe zone for us. Life in limbo certainly changes one BUT it has an advantage. I can continue to research and watch what others are going through in the red/green zone,so I am prepared when it is our turn to fight. I thought dealing with EQC for the last year was the battle, but as everyone has said, it is the insurance companies that will be the biggest battle of all.I actually got to the stage where I forgot what the insurance company was for that when Arrow rang me I was taken back.Gee a year later and insurance contact me. So I wait each day for news, but at the same time I dont want the news.
(This is only a general overview, many more things I will get around to putting up)
